The Headlines:

 

In the role of Senior Manager, Sales Finance – Western Canada working in Calgary you will be part of the Western Canada sales leadership team operating as the “CFO” for the Region. Sales Finance provides financial decision support to the sales organization to optimize the profitability of the West Market Development Area with a view of profitability drivers by province, channel, segment, brand and through optimization of revenue management strategies.

 

This position reports to VP, Commercial Finance and works closely as the primary finance business partner to the VP Western Canada Sales and Provincial Sales Directors to develop, execute and monitor sales strategies.

Responsibilities

The Responsibilities:

The core responsibilities include providing Finance Business Partnering support and performance management guidance in the following areas:

  • Act as a true finance business partner - facilitate discussions to ensure understanding of results and the implications for achieving the teams’ goals and strategies. Active financial participation in Regional Demand Reviews.
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of monthly, quarterly, and full year financial results to management in a consolidated monthly package of reports that is consistent across the sales organization.
  • Analyze drivers for actual performance vs. plan or forecast and liaise directly with senior sales management to proactively put plans in place to achieve financial and strategic goals.
  • Ensure material investments in the regions (including on premise, channel, sponsorships, and events) are supported with the right level or ROI/Business case analytics. Ensure proper framework for analytical support is provided to the sales teams so that analyses are focused, and value added only (change vs. current processes and requires significant change management).
  • Ensure effective governance of financial data is provided to the sales organization – eliminate duplicate views of financials, streamline reporting, and control the level of details provided through the creation of guidelines for financial support.
  • Proactively interface with other finance groups for problem resolution and consistency – act as a single point of contact to the sales organization for all finance issues and concerns.
  • Ensure adherence to the company's documented financial policies and procedures
  • Partner with the Sales Team to ensure compliance against key metrics to deliver sustainable Profit After Capital Charge (PACC).
  • Leverage standard reporting tools (such as Regional P&Ls, ZBB package data, KPIs) to enable the sales team to have a holistic view of the business and hold itself & others accountable for delivery of strategy and performance. Liaise with other finance functions (such as Supply Chain Finance) to ensure proper understanding of margin levers and key drivers of costs.
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of monthly, quarterly, and full year regional financial results to management to ensure delivery of targets.
  • Analyze drivers for actual performance vs. plan or forecast and liaise directly with marketing leaders to proactively put plans in place to achieve financial and strategic goals.
  • Understand external environment / competitors and ensure insights are incorporated into plans (this might include preparation of ‘shadow P&Ls’, competitive deep dives, etc.). Monitor market growth, shares movement and trends and assist in understanding what’s driving the trends.
  • Evaluate volume and trade spend Risks and Opportunities to help deliver targets and proactively address any headwinds to plans.
  • Drive Gross Margin and Mix continuous improvement by identifying and quantifying margin enhancing opportunities with the sales leadership team.
  • Partner with Revenue Management and Sales to analyze, validate and deliver strategic pricing objectives for the region.
  • Support the sales team in the annual Long Range Planning process.

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Business/Commerce/Economics with an accounting designation or MBA.
  • You have at least 7-10 years of progressive experience in finance preferably within CPG in a brand or sales finance business partnering role.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills; working knowledge of SAP would be an asset.
  • As part of the recruitment process, the candidates will be required to provide consent to complete a criminal background check.
