The Headlines:


In the role of Packaging Scientist working in Toronto you will be part of the National Research and Development Team. You will be responsible for the structural and material development of beverage packaging. You will lead the packaging design projects and development processes and work with other company functions and suppliers to identify and qualify packaging equipment. 


This position reports to the Senior Manager of Packaging Research and Development and works closely with our Supply Chain team, Innovation Marketing, Procurement and Commercial functions.


The Responsibilities:

  • Generate and deliver packaging innovations, renovation opportunities and process optimization initiatives for the Canadian business unit.
  • Work with Marketing Innovation and Brands Marketing to support the generation of a new package for current and/or new brand opportunities.
  • Contributes subject matter expert on a defined innovation platform by keeping up to speed on industry developments and communicating to the regional R&D team, therefore feeding ideas and best practices into the innovation funnel.
  • Generates new ideas, challenges the status quo, takes risks and encourages calculated risk taking.
  • Supports the Operations packaging on process, quality, efficiency areas, and troubleshooting as required.
  • Works within a defined project management stage gate process through concept/feasibility/development stages and supports preparation of robust business cases and implementation plans.
  • Integrates knowledge of packaging materials and equipment interaction in support of successful and effective business solutions
  • Liaise with key contacts across the Supply Chain to ensure co-ordination of activities at enterprise level.
  • Responsible for compliance to all Molson Coors packaging specifications and standards to deliver standardized technical requirements and to achieve consistent packaging practices.

The Other Qualifications:


  • BS degree equivalent in Packaging or related discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years in Packaging or associated consumer goods industry
  • Advanced degree in Packaging science is preferred
  • Requires developed communication skills necessary for the exchange of scientific information with a sensitivity and awareness of the audience.
  • Able to link sensory variance/consumer response to process and package material design.
  • Requires use of conceptual and innovative thinking (i.e. identifying solutions).
  • Requires good understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the function and contribute to achieving the goals of the region.
  • You love a challenge. You complete complex projects quickly and adeptly with your understanding of the business priorities. You act with appropriate urgency to various market events and trends that require a quick turnaround in plans and strategy
  • You are confident and competent. You are diplomatic, professional and exercise great judgment in developing and maintaining excellent business relationships within the business
  • You are serious about delivering results, and take pride in a proven track record in delivering.
